Cpanel 11.30 on Centos 6.0
Cpanel updated its offering on the Centos even before Centos released a new version, but it seems like Cpanel itself can’t get its stuff straight. As of today (after a week of tries and failures) it is finally possible to install Cpanel on Minimal installation of Centos 6.0 without installing perl or anything else manually on the server before running Cpanel installation script (“latest”). Cpanel uses a very interesting approach here, they are downloading their own perl package with perl 5.8.8 (which is the perl used in Centos 5.0 if I’m not mistaken). I’m sure they got their own reasons but I would love to hear a decent explanation on that.
We will let you know if any bugs will arise during the testing period or the production phase. Bugs will be found, most probably, as the system is very new (although for Cpanel which can run on Rhel 6, it should not be new as Centos is the exact clone of Rhel).
Right now there is only one problem we are noticing on the server – iptables part of the cpanel is full of bugs and it won’t even install their basic rules during the setup as it always did on Centos 5.0. What’s funny is that if you try to contact Cpanel technical support they might tell you that you must configure iptables on the server manually because they do not support iptables nor do they control iptables rules on the server – which is complete and utter nonsense.
